Gold's Gym Healthclub Franchises Switch to OpenDNS for Web Content Filtering and Security

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2010 -- OpenDNS (http://www.opendns.com), provider of the world's leading Internet navigation and security services that make networks safer, faster, smarter and more reliable, today announced WRFitness, operator of several Gold's Gym franchises in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, has deployed OpenDNS subscription services at all locations for Web content filtering and to improve DNS security.

WRFitness recognized the need for a centrally-manageable solution that allowed technology staff to control Internet access on all workstations, without requiring an appliance at each health club site. The gyms have both workstations for employees and workstations offering free WiFi for guests, and needed to apply different access limitations. OpenDNS, which works through the cloud, met WRFitness's needs perfectly.

"We considered other options, but the ability to manage filtering from a central location without any hardware was definitely the feature that made OpenDNS stand out," said Eriq Stern, IT Director for WRFitness. "It was unnecessary and too complicated to manage filtering on each machine individually, particularly since we have only two cases - the case of employee machines and the case of machines used by guests. All employee machines require the same filters and all guest-use machines require the same filters."

"OpenDNS allowed us to deploy the service in minutes across all locations and provided us with a Whitelist-Only mode that makes setting filtering settings extremely easy," he continued.

Also strengthening the case for OpenDNS subscription services is its robust reporting functionality, which provides Stern insight into what's happening on his network at a DNS level - namely which sites are being visited and which blocked sites individuals attempted to visit. If Stern sees problem sites or problematic trending he can easily enforce blocks or remove the sites from his Whitelist.

"The experience with OpenDNS has been great," Stern said. "I recommend it to everyone."
